Linking incomplete EPIC to next Version

What is the purpose of the Article?

  • You will understand how to link an EPIC to a new Version

Why and when do you have to link an EPIC to a different version?

  • If an EPIC in a Version is not complete and the Version needs to be released because its release date has passed, then you will link the EPIC to the next Version.

  • An EPIC is linked to the next version when the release date of the Version has passed and it needs to be released now.

Before you start

  • A Version is required to be created for the next month

  • The EPIC should be incomplete in the current Version.

Linking an EPIC to a NEW Version

  1. In Jira Software, navigate to your project.

  2. In the project menu, click on Releases.

  3. Select the Version whose EPIC you want to link to the next Version(in this case Version, “June 2020”)

  4. Select the EPIC that you want to link to the next version from the list as shown below:

  5. Select the next Version from the drop-down menu in the field, “Fix Version”

  6. Remove the previous Version from the list

  7. The EPIC is linked to the next Version.

  8. You are required to send an email to all stakeholders notifying that which EPIC has been linked to the next version and why.
