Creating a Version

What is the purpose of the Article?

Before you start

  • You should have a project in Jira Software

  • You should have the “Project Administrator” rights for the project.

Before creating a Version

  • Version planning is required to be completed

  • Version plan document required to be shared with all stakeholders

Creating a Version

  1. In Jira Software, navigate to your project.

  2. In the project menu, click on Releases.

  3. Click on Create Version

  4. A dialog box will open:

  5. Enter a name, start date, release date, and description:

    1. Name: The name of the version will be in the format <month> <year>”.

      Example: Version name will be “June 2020“ of the version for the month of June 2020 and so on

    2. Start date: is the date at which work on this Version will be started

    3. Release date: is the date when the Version is completed and released

    4. Description: You will give a short brief the Version here consisting of the outcome you are expecting at the completion of the Version.

  6. Click on Save

In the case that the current version is released before its release date, you will set a new start date for the next version you are creating if it was already created with a start date.
